Leading designers from Japan, China and South Korea have taken part in a fashion show in Beijing.
China's Ministry of Culture sponsored the show on Wednesday to mark the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the People's Republic of China and Japan and the 20th anniversary of diplomatic ties with South Korea.
Japanese designer Junko Koshino presented original costumes with an Edo Period motif.
Japan-China confrontation over the Senkaku Islands caused cancellations of many bilateral exchange events. The fashion show was also in danger of cancellation at one point.
Koshino said politics and culture are totally different. She stressed the importance of continuing cultural exchange, saying it will fail if swayed by politics.
She said she believes she was able to remain firm in her stance.
