'Go To Eat' campaign discussed at govt. panel
NHK -- Sep 05
A Japanese government panel has discussed measures to prevent coronavirus infections for the "Go To Eat" campaign, designed to help the restaurant industry hit hard by the outbreak.

The experts met in Tokyo on Friday.

Under the campaign, 33 of the country's 47 prefectures have decided to issue meal coupons so far. The coupons are worth 25 percent more than their sales price.

The campaign is expected to start as early as this month in some areas.

The experts discussed measures to prevent the spread of the virus and compiled a set of proposals.

They call for efforts to spread out dining days and time. They also ask that participating restaurants secure a certain distance between tables. Customers are urged to refrain from visiting restaurants in large groups, speaking loudly and drinking too much.

The proposals also call on prefectural governors to carefully decide whether to take part in the program in areas where infections are rapidly spreading.
