Nikkei index briefly tumbles 1,000 points

NHK -- Feb 26
On the Tokyo Stock Exchange, the benchmark Nikkei Average briefly dropped by more than 1,000 points at one time on Friday from the previous day's close.

Brisk sell orders were placed at the start of Friday afternoon.

Concern is growing among investors that the rising long-term US Treasury yield could lead to volatile markets.

The losses were also triggered by tumbling share prices in Hong Kong and other Asian markets.
