Atlanta, May 20 (NHK) - Japanese pitcher Darvish Yu of the San Diego Padres has earned his 200th combined win between his Major League Baseball and Nippon Professional Baseball careers.
He became the third Japanese-born pitcher to reach the record, following Nomo Hideo and Kuroda Hiroki. He has 107 major league victories, and 93 in Japan.
Darvish started the game against the Braves in Atlanta on Sunday night.
San Diego took a 3-0 lead in the first inning. At the bottom of the first inning, Darvish allowed a double after two outs. But he pitched out of trouble by striking out the next batter.
His scoreless pitching streak continued through the seventh inning, when he earned the season-high ninth strikeout.
The Padres beat the Braves 9-1, giving Darvish the fourth win of the season.
