Rare Black Manta Born at Okinawa Aquarium

NAHA, Aug 08 (News On Japan) - The Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium captured the rare moment of a 'Black Manta' giving birth on August 5, an event seldom seen worldwide. While typical mantas have white bellies, this newborn is an entirely black specimen, a rarity.

In the large tank of the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, fish swim gracefully, drawing attention to the magnificent black manta. The birth of the baby manta was a significant event, capturing the interest of around 50 visitors who were present by chance.

The aquarium, known for being the first in the world to successfully breed mantas, proudly announced the birth of this rare black manta. The baby manta, currently housed in a separate tank, will be gradually acclimated to its environment before being displayed to the public.

This event underscores the increasing threat of extinction faced by mantas, making the successful birth of this rare black manta even more significant. The aquarium continues its efforts in manta breeding and conservation, showcasing the marvels of marine life to visitors from around the world.
