Golf Star Ai Miyazato Gives Inspiring Talk

OKINAWA, Oct 15 (News On Japan) - Professional golfer Ai Miyazato hosted the 5th Ai Miyazato Invitational Supported by SUNTORY, a junior girls' tournament held in her hometown of Okinawa.

This tournament aims not only to develop the skills of young players but also incorporates a classroom session on the mental methodology "VISION54," which Miyazato herself learned during her career. This reflects her passion for nurturing the next generation of junior athletes.

On October 13th, during the first day of the tournament, while the players competed, Miyazato held a rare workshop for the parents of the participants.

She shared her experiences and discussed the significant influence parents have on their children's development as junior athletes, particularly on how to best support them.

Miyazato passionately warned against the growing trend among golfers to equate their self-worth with their scores. She stressed the importance of emphasizing the process, not just the results, and encouraged parents to communicate closely with their children to help them enjoy the game rather than tying their self-esteem solely to their scores.

Later, Miyazato held a "feedback lesson" for the players after their competition.

She emphasized the importance of reflecting on not only their mistakes but also their successful moments to build positive experiences. One player commented, "I used to focus only on my mistakes, but learning that it's equally important to reflect on what went well was refreshing!"

The tournament will conclude tomorrow. Miyazato said, "I'm excited to see what the players have been thinking while they play. I’ll be watching their games closely to learn more."
