SHIZUOKA, Aug 20 (News On Japan) - A breakin competition was held on August 16th at Granship in Shizuoka City, where participants engaged in heated dance battles. Breakin, also known as breakdancing, was added as a new sport at the Paris 2024 Olympics, drawing growing attention worldwide.
The event, organized by the Shizuoka Prefecture Dance Sports Federation, aimed to promote the sport and foster new talent, attracting around 50 competitors.
Following its Olympic debut, breakin has continued to expand in Japan, and it is set to be added as a new event at the National Sports Festival scheduled to take place in Nagano in three years.
Takashi Karasawa, head of the federation’s breakin division, said: "We are holding this event because we want many children to become familiar with breakin."
Competitors delivered high-energy performances, showcasing their skills in intense dance battles.
