Aug 24 (billboard.com) - Babymetal rocked the crowd at the Summer Sonic music festival Sunday (Aug. 20) in Chiba, Japan, with an exhilarating concert experience that blends J-pop idol entertainment with excellently orchestrated metal.
When the Japanese teen rock idols performed at Summer Sonic for the first time in 2012 they were the youngest act ever to do so. They've played at the annual festival six years in a row since then, meeting Metallica in 2013, performing on the same stage with Megadeth and Avenged Sevenfold in 2014, with Marilyn Manson in 2015, and headlining the Osaka Sonic Stage in 2016. This year, they appeared second in billing after Foo Fighters, the main stage headliner.
The moment they began their set with "Babymetal Death," the crowd surged towards the Marine Stage and went wild. The girls stormed through "Gimme Chocolate" and "Megitsune." During "Catch Me If You Can," Su-metal addressed the stoked crowd, "Summer Sonic! We finally made it here!" -- resulting in fans creating a massive but cheerful circle pit in front of the stage.'
