Aug 31 (NHK) - Japan's Finance Minister Taro Aso has retracted a controversial remark that could be seen as defending Adolf Hitler.
Aso said on Tuesday at a meeting of lawmakers of his faction that Hitler, who killed millions of people, was no good even if his motive was right.
He was speaking about the importance of politicians' producing results no matter what motivated them to enter politics.
Aso issued a comment on Wednesday to take back the remark, saying it's regrettable that his words were misunderstood.
He said he mentioned Hitler as a bad example while trying to stress that nothing is more important for politicians than producing results.
