Kim Jong Un warns of 'highest level' action, possibly H-bomb test

Sep 22, 2017 (Nikkei) - North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said Friday in a statement that the country will seriously consider taking the "highest level of hard-line" action in its history, following a threat by U.S. President Donald Trump to "totally destroy" the country in a speech to the United Nations.

Although Kim did not elaborate on what measures he intended to take, Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho said the country may consider its most powerful test of a hydrogen bomb in the Pacific Ocean, according to South Korea's Yonhap News Agency.

Ri was supposed to address the UN on Friday, but that has been postponed to Saturday. The reason for the delay is unknown.

In a rare statement by Kim himself, he said Trump's UN speech insulted him and North Korea before the world, and that Trump had "made the most ferocious declaration of a war in history."

Kim added that Trump's remarks "have convinced me, rather than frightening or stopping me, that the path I chose is correct and that it is the one I have to follow to the last."

"We will consider with seriousness exercising of a corresponding, highest level of hard-line countermeasure in history... Action is the best option in treating the dotard who, hard of hearing, is uttering only what he wants to say," Kim said.
