Oct 27 (NHK) - An executive at Japanese carmaker Subaru says its improper pre-shipment inspections may have continued for many years.
The misconduct came to light through an internal probe.
The government instructed domestic automakers to carry out investigations after a similar scandal at Nissan Motor.
Sources say some unqualified employees conducted final safety checks at a Subaru plant north of Tokyo.
The government only allows authorized workers to verify the safety of vehicles before they are shipped.
