Suspect dismembered bodies in bathroom

Nov 01, 2017 (NHK) - A man arrested in connection with a missing 23-year-old woman is reportedly telling police that he had dismembered the bodies of 9 people in the bathroom of his apartment.

Police arrested 27-year-old Takahiro Shiraishi on Tuesday on suspicion of abandoning the body of the woman, who had disappeared from her home in Tokyo about a week ago. Police say he is admitting to the charge.

An investigation into the whereabouts of the woman led them to search the suspect's apartment in Zama City, Kanagawa Prefecture, near Tokyo, the previous day. They found the body parts of 8 women and one man in a cooler and other places.

Police suspect Shiraishi used a saw found in the apartment to cut up and hide the bodies.

They say the suspect has admitted to killing the woman the first time he met her. They think he killed all 9 people.

Police believe the suspect contacted the woman via a suicide website.

The woman had posted messages on her twitter account saying she wanted to die but was afraid to do so alone. She asked for messages from people willing to die with her.

At least 6 people sent her messages to that effect.
