Man arrested over girlfriend's murder in Osaka

Nov 06 (Japan Today) - Police in Osaka said Sunday they have arrested an unemployed 42-year-old man on suspicion of killing his 31-year-old girlfriend at his apartment.

According to police, a man called 110 at around 8:30 p.m. Saturday and said, â€œI strangled my girlfriend to death.â€ He gave the address of his apartment in Miyakojima Ward and asked them to come over, Fuji TV reported.

Police rushed to the scene and found the body of Natsumi Kitamaki, a resident of Ikuno Ward, lying face up on a futon. Police said she had been dead for a few days. They identified her from her driverâ€™s license. Her parents had reported her missing on Oct 31.

Police said Noritake Kaieda, who lived in the apartment, was apprehended not far from the apartment at around 9:40 p.m. He admitted to killing Kitamaki, who he said was his girlfriend, â€œsometime around Oct 31,â€ police said, adding that he has so far not given any motive for the crime.
