Nov 27 (NHK) - About 10,000 runners competed in long-distance races at the foot of Japan's highest peak, Mount Fuji, on Sunday.
The 6th annual Mt. Fuji Marathon consisted of 2 courses -- a 42.195 kilometer full marathon around lakes Kawaguchiko and Saiko, and a 10 kilometer fun-run.
The full marathon started at 9 AM under sunny skies and a snow-capped Mount Fuji. Many spectators cheered the runners on.
90 percent of the participants completed the run within 6 hours. They were given medals in the shape of Mount Fuji.
One woman in her 20s said the course was tougher than expected. She said that though she couldn't finish as fast as she had hoped, it felt great to run with a view of Mount Fuji.
