Dec 01 (NHK) - The Japan Sumo Association has reprimanded Yokozuna Hakuho for recent conduct and remarks deemed below the standards expected of a grand champion.
The association's chairman, Hakkaku, reprimanded Hakuho and his stable master Miyagino at a meeting on Thursday. The 2 reportedly apologized.
Hakuho was criticized for his conduct during a ringside interview this Sunday following his victory at the November tournament.
He apologized during the interview for the assault scandal involving Yokozuna Harumafuji and junior wrestler Takanoiwa. He then said he wants to see both wrestlers allowed to return to the ring.
He was criticized for appearing to pass judgment on an ongoing case.
Hakuho was also criticized for apparently protesting a referee's call against him on day 11 of the tournament.
