Jan 30 (the-japan-news.com) - Massive ice columns artificially created in Onouchi Ravine in Ogano, Saitama Prefecture, are dazzling visitors to the area.
The columns were made by spraying water over trees on slopes and letting it freeze naturally. The water was drawn from the upper reaches of mountain rivers.
The organizing committee that created the scenery said the ice columns covered an area measuring about 250 meters by about 60 meters. It said this year’s scenery is more powerful and impressive than in past years, thanks to the recent cold spell.
The cold weather continued on Monday in the Kanto region as a cold air mass flew in over the region, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.
