Feb 22 (NHK) - Japanese speed skaters have won gold in the women's team pursuit event at the PyeongChang Olympics.
Sisters Miho and Nana Takagi, together with Ayano Sato, finished with a time of 2 minutes 53.89 seconds. That's a new Olympic record.
This marks the first time Japan has won gold in a team pursuit event at the Olympics. The women's team won silver at the 2010 Games in Vancouver.
The pursuit is a long-track speed skating event. Two teams of 3 skaters race each other at the same time.
The Netherlands won the silver medal. And the United States took the bronze.
