May 05 (NHK) - Japanese Major League baseball player Ichiro Suzuki says he will take his new role at the Seattle Mariners with pleasure if that is what the team wants him to do.
The team has put him in an advisory role and he will therefore not play for the rest of the season.
Speaking to reporters in Seattle on Thursday, Ichiro said he will take on his new role if it helps the team he loves. He added that he previously thought if he had such a proposal from the team, he would quit.
He also said he wants to remain a baseball scholar who keeps watching how he will evolve as an athlete.
He said he does not feel a sense of loss, as he will continue practicing with his teammates.
