Empress plays piano at music festival workshop

Aug 28, 2018 (NHK) - Japan's Empress Michiko gave a piano performance at a music workshop in the resort town of Kusatsu in Gunma Prefecture, north of Tokyo.

The Empress attended the Kusatsu International Summer Music Academy & Festival on Monday. She and Emperor Akihito are on summer holiday in the town.

Empress Michiko performed "The Swan" from Camille Saint-Saens's "The Carnival of the Animals" with renowned French horn player Katerina Javurkova.

The Empress consulted the Czech-born artist about the tempo and loudness.

Javurkova praised her tone and said she was honored to have the precious opportunity to accompany the Empress.
