Nov 09 (NHK) - The Japanese government is set to ban flights of drones over and near the venues of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics to prevent accidents and acts of terrorism.
In the plan, drones flying in those areas without permission will be seized.
The government may also prohibit drone flights over and near installations of the Self-Defense Forces and US forces in Japan. There have been cases of drones flying close to aircraft around the bases.
The government seeks to submit the necessary legislation to a Diet session next year.
In 2015, a drone was found on the roof of the prime minister's official residence. The incident led to a ban on unpermitted drone flights over and near important facilities, such as nuclear power plants.
