Feb 17 (Japan Today) - Police in Koga, Ibaraki Prefecture, said Saturday they have arrested a 35-year-old woman on suspicion of abusing her six-year-old daughter by hitting her with a futon beater.
According to police, Yumi Okura, who works in the office of an elementary school, repeatedly hit her daughter on the arms and buttocks with the beater at their home on Feb 10, Fuji TV reported. The child suffered injuries that will take about three weeks to heal, police said.
Police said staff at the daycare center which the girl attends noticed bruises on her arms on Thursday and contacted a child welfare center. The center contacted police about a case of possible child abuse.
Police said Okura has admitted to the charge but has so far given no motive.
