Mar 26 (NHK) - The organizers of the 2020 Tokyo Games have unveiled the torch that will carry the Paralympic flame. Its motif is a cherry blossom, the same as for the Olympic torch, but the color is more pinkish, which the organizers characterize as "cherry blossom pink."
The organizing committee unveiled the torch on Monday, days after the Olympic torch was revealed.
The words "courage," "determination," "inspiration," and "equality" will be inscribed in braille on the torch. The words represent core Paralympic values.
The committee also announced the schedule for the flame's relay across the country.
From August 13 to 17 of next year, flame-lighting events will be held in various prefectures that will not host Paralympic venues.
At three prefectures that are co-hosting the games, Shizuoka, Chiba, and Saitama, lighting events and torch relays will be held on August 18, 19, and 20, respectively.
The various flames will be brought together in Tokyo on August 21. The flame will be relayed in the city until August 25, when the opening ceremony takes place.
The committee said teams of three people will relay the flame, with each person carrying one torch.
