Jul 25 (NHK) - The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department has conducted inspections of nighttime entertainment areas where the coronavirus is believed to be spreading.
The work took place in the Shinjuku and Ikebukuro areas on Friday. Officers visited clubs and bars where customers are personally attended to.
The inspections are being conducted under a law that regulates adult entertainment and allows the police to confirm operating hours and employee rosters.
However, concerns are being voiced about the work deviating from the law's purpose because there are no provisions about hygiene or sanitization.
The police plan to conduct their inspections, and then ask Tokyo government officials to call on consenting establishments to ensure thorough measures are in place, such as taking body temperatures and disinfecting.
