The logo for 2025 Osaka Expo unveiled

Aug 27, 2020 (NHK) - The Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition has unveiled the official logo in Osaka where the event will be held.

The winning design was created by a team of six and features a dozen "bouncing" red cells in the shape of an O, the initial of the host city. It was selected from among 5,894 submissions.

The creators say the design represents the "brilliance of life" and reflects the Expo's theme, "Designing Future Society for Our Lives."

The logo was highly rated for its uniqueness and strong presence.

Representing the team of creators, art director Shimada Tamotu said he was stunned by the news. He said he was inspired by the Tower of the Sun, an iconic structure built for the 1970 World Expo in Osaka, which he saw as a child. He said he was aiming to create something original. He added that he is thrilled that the logo will serve as the face of the Expo over the next five years.

The secretary general of the Association, Ishige Hiroyuki, said he believes the logo enhances hopes for the future. He pledged to work to make the upcoming Expo appealing to everyone.
