Teenagers caught pushing shopping carts down escalator

Feb 26, 2021 (NHK) - Two teenagers have been accused of pushing shopping carts down escalators at a shopping center in Tokyo, with one of them posting the video of his act on social media.

Tokyo police have sent the cases of two 17-year-olds to a prosecutor's office, after they turned themselves in.

The incidents occurred on the same day in January at the same shopping center in Tokyo's Itabashi Ward.

One of the boys is a senior high school student, and is suspected of assault. A woman was injured when she was hit by the shopping cart he pushed down the escalator.

The other boy could face a misdemeanor charge. He pushed a cart down another escalator in the same shopping center, and posted the video which went viral.

The shopping center reported the incidents to the police.

The boys have admitted to the charges against them. They say they were having fun with their friends, and pushed the carts down the escalator on the spur of the moment.
