Mar 17 (Kyodo) - Former Japan soccer international Takayuki Morimoto was arrested Tuesday for driving while intoxicated and causing an accident in Paraguay, where he recently signed for first-division side Sportivo Luqueno, local media reported.
According to local news reports, which were later confirmed by the Japanese Embassy in Paraguay, witnesses in the capital city Asuncion saw Morimoto crash into a motorcycle with his car and leave the scene without helping the injured rider.
The embassy said the 32-year-old forward was released on bail. Local media said he has offered to pay the rider's medical bills and other accident-related damages.
