Jun 20 (NHK) - Members of Uganda's Olympic team have arrived in Japan to start gearing up for the Games at their training camp. But their preparations suffered a setback, when one person tested positive for the coronavirus at an airport quarantine station.
A plane carrying the 9 teammates touched down at Narita Airport near Tokyo on Saturday. The athletes will participate in the boxing, weightlifting and swimming events.
Officials say the players and staff were vaccinated before they came to Japan. But one member of the group tested positive for the coronavirus during a screening at the airport. That individual is staying at a government-designated facility.
The others are traveling to their host city, Osaka Prefecture's Izumisano. They will hold their training camp there.
The Ugandan squad is the second foreign team to arrive in Japan. The Australian women's softball squad arrived on June 1st.
