Jun 29 (NHK) - US tennis star Serena Williams says she will not take part in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.
Williams made the announcement at a news conference on Sunday, ahead of the opening of the Wimbledon tennis championships.
She said she is not on the "Olympic list."
The 23-time Grand Slam champion said, "There's a lot of reasons that I made my Olympic decision." But she added, "I don't feel like going into them today."
The former number one player in the world is 39 years old. Williams has four Olympic gold medals. She won the top prize in women's doubles at the 2000 Sydney Games and the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
She also won the women's singles and doubles titles at the 2012 Olympics in London.
