Dec 10 (Japan Today) - Police in Koga, Ibaraki Prefecture, have arrested a 35-year-old unemployed woman on suspicion of killing a 76-year-old man at the nursing home where she used to work in 2020.
According to police, Megumi Akama is accused of injecting air into an intravenous drip, causing the death of Tetsuji Yoshida at the Keyaki no Ie nursing home at around 12:30 p.m. on July 6, 2020, Fuji TV reported. Yoshida died after and Akama resigned from the nursing home the same day. She had started working at the facility in April 2020.
Police said Akama was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting in November and during questioning, hinted at killing Yoshida.
Police said there have been other suspicious deaths of elderly residents of the home and are questioning Akama about those cases as well.
