Japan confirms 13th Omicron variant case

Dec 12 (NHK) - A man in his 40's from Gifu Prefecture in central Japan has tested positive for the Omicron variant. He returned to Japan on December 4 after a stay in Sri Lanka.

The health ministry says the man was fully vaccinated but was hospitalized after he became fatigued and developed a fever.

He is the 13th person in Japan to have been found infected with the variant.

As of 6 p.m. on Saturday, 149 people in the country had been found to have been infected with the coronavirus, including 20 in Tokyo.

The daily case count in Tokyo has been below 50 for 56 days in a row, and under 30 for 30 straight days.
