Dec 16 (NHK) - Work has begun to remove the emblems of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government buildings. The Games were held earlier this year amid the coronavirus pandemic.
On Wednesday morning, removal began of the six sheets featuring the Games' emblems and mascots from the walls of main building No.1, the assembly building and other places.
A contract between the Tokyo government and the International Olympic Committee limits the period the symbols can be used to the year-end.
All related symbols displayed in or on the metropolitan government buildings will be removed by then.
