Jan 20 (NHK) - The rapid spread of coronavirus infection in Japan is hitting nursery schools hard. Nearly 90 schools across the country were closed as of last week.
Seven children tested positive at this nursery in Tokyo. The staff say they took all possible measures to prevent infection.
Partitions were set up when children ate, and the children had to eat in silence. Toys were disinfected every day.
Staff members say they don't know what more can be done to fend off the Omicron variant.
Some schools are also short of staff. Teachers who have come into close contact with an infected person have to isolate at home.
The nursery school director says, "If more employees become unable to come to work, we will have to put some restrictions on children's activities. Otherwise, we won't be able to ensure the children's safety."
