JAL system failure causes flight delays

Feb 16 (NHK) - Japan Airlines says it has been hit by a computer system failure that is affecting automated check-ins and online booking procedures for both domestic and international flights.

JAL officials say the glitch occurred at 5 a.m. on Wednesday. They say airport staff members are manually checking in customers at counters. They say that has led to delays of about one hour. Osaka airport and Tokyo's Haneda are reportedly among the airports that have been affected by the system failure.

The officials say the cause of the glitch is unknown. They say automated baggage handling devices are also not working. They say reservations for flights cannot be made on the company's website.

The officials say the delays could continue. They are calling on people to check the latest information on the website and elsewhere.
