Jul 07 (NHK) - A man with a knife attacked two junior high school girls on a street in the city of Sendai, northeastern Japan. One of the girls suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say they were notified of the incident at around 8 a.m. Thursday, local time.
They arrested a 43-year-old nearby resident on suspicion of attempted murder.
The suspect had reportedly fled to his home after attacking the girls and was taken into police custody there. He is said to have told investigators he intended to kill the victims.
Police believe the suspect carried out the attack at random. They are trying to determine his motive.
