TOKYO, Nov 17 (Kabuki In-Depth) - In this video, we take a look at the informal art of kakegoe, the shouting by fans during a kabuki show, which are a valuable addition to the performance inherited from the Edo period.
From the reopening of theatres in August 2020 until October 2022, shouting was completely prohibited as a virus-preventing measure. For the Danjūrō XIII shūmei at the Kabuki-za, starting October 31th, two members of the ōmukō fan associations will be allowed to continue with the tradition in every show.
