OSAKA, Dec 28 (News On Japan) - The sacred rope at Nachi Falls has a new lease on life, as priests at Kumano Nachi Taisha Shrine in Wakayama brave icy conditions in preparation for the New Year.
The rope, strung across the mouth of the waterfall with a drop of 133 meters, was replaced by priests wearing safety harnesses. Despite the chilly conditions, they installed a new rope, about 26 meters long, made of white woven cotton.
This marks the completion of all preparations for welcoming the New Year.
