Ishikawa, Jan 10 (News On Japan) - A whale shark that captured the hearts of visitors to Notojima Aquarium has died in captivity following the devastating Ishikawa earthquake.
'Hachibei' was one of two whale sharks that had been on display at the aquarium located in Nanao City, Ishikawa, since September 2022.
The recent earthquake caused severe shaking in Nanao City, with an intensity of 6+, resulting in a decrease in the water level of the whale shark's tank, submersion of the circulation pump, and a halt in the filtration system.
'Hachibei' was not seen swimming since January 7th, and her death was confirmed around noon on Tuesday.
The Notojima Aquarium is desperately exploring all possible measures to save the other whale shark, 'Haku'.
