HIROSHIMA, Jul 10 (News On Japan) - The Hiroshima High Court has issued a decision allowing a gender change from male to female on family registry records without undergoing sex reassignment surgery.
According to the Hiroshima High Court, the individual diagnosed with gender identity disorder requested to change their legal gender from male to female without undergoing sex reassignment surgery.
The Hiroshima High Court recognized the individual's continuous hormone therapy and physical feminization and decided to allow the gender change on the family registry records.
Until now, sex reassignment surgery was required for gender change, but the Hiroshima High Court pointed out that this requirement may violate the constitutional right to bodily integrity against one's will.
