Elderly Driver Plunges into Reservoir

GUNMA, Aug 01 (News On Japan) - An elderly man has died after his car plunged into a reservoir in Fujioka City, Gunma Prefecture.

At approximately 1:30 p.m. on July 31, police received a report that a car was submerged in the Takenuma Reservoir in Nishihirai, Fujioka City.

According to the police, a standard passenger car driven by an elderly man fell into the reservoir. About three hours later, the man was rescued from the submerged vehicle but was in cardiopulmonary arrest and subsequently pronounced dead.

The road near the reservoir is narrow, only wide enough for one car, and has many curves. The police believe the man may have accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake, causing the car to fall into the reservoir. They are investigating the circumstances and working to confirm the man's identity.
