MIE, Mar 31 (News On Japan) - Children on spring break took part in a zazen meditation session at Toshoji Temple in Kiho, Mie Prefecture, on March 28th to help reset their daily routines.
Toshoji Temple in Kiho holds a "Children's Zazen Gathering" every year during the spring holiday. On the morning of March 28th, two local elementary school students joined the session, which began at 7 a.m.
The children practiced seated meditation for 20 minutes. As their focus began to fade over time, the head priest lightly tapped their shoulders with a wooden stick called a kyosaku to help them regain concentration.
After the meditation, the children chanted sutras in the main hall and took part in cleaning activities as part of the temple's morning duties. The zazen sessions will continue until April 6th.
