HAKODATE, May 06 (News On Japan) - A car plunged into the sea from a wharf in Hakodate Port, Hokkaido on May 4th, and an elderly man rescued from the vehicle was later confirmed dead.
The vehicle, seen floating and spinning in the water, had just fallen from the quay.
According to fire authorities, the white passenger car went over the edge of the West Wharf near "Hakodate Dock" in Benten Town, Hakodate City, around 2:40 p.m. on May 4th.
Roughly 40 minutes after the fall, an elderly man was pulled from the submerged vehicle. He was taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead.
Police are investigating the cause of the fall and working to confirm the man's identity.
