HAMAMATSU, Jun 03 (News On Japan) - A 34-year-old woman has been arrested in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka Prefecture, on suspicion of harboring a man who fled the scene after a car crash that left two children behind. The incident occurred on June 1st when a car veered off a municipal road and fell onto the Tōmei Expressway in the city’s Chūō Ward.
Police say the woman, identified as Noriko Oshida, is suspected of helping Akiya Kurebayashi, who was arrested earlier for driving without a license and abandoning the scene of the accident. Oshida allegedly sheltered Kurebayashi to help him evade arrest.
According to investigators, Kurebayashi left two children at the crash site before fleeing. He was later apprehended by police. Oshida, who lives in Mikatahara in Chūō Ward, is unemployed and is believed to be in a relationship with Kurebayashi.
Authorities have not disclosed whether Oshida has admitted to the charges.
