AICHI, Aug 21 (News On Japan) - Aichi prefectural police arrested 29 Japanese men and women on Wednesday on suspicion of attempted fraud, following their detention at a facility in Cambodia believed to be a hub for organized scams.
Arrest warrants were executed aboard a charter flight from Phnom Penh International Airport to Chubu Airport in Tokoname, Aichi Prefecture.
The operation marked the largest number of fraud-related suspects ever repatriated to Japan in a single transfer from overseas. Police plan to step up investigations to uncover the structure and operations of the suspected scam base.
The group arrived at Chubu Airport on August 20th. Many wore T-shirts and shorts, keeping their faces down as they were escorted by investigators into transport vehicles.
