SAPPORO, Aug 27 (News On Japan) - Gilyak Amagasaki, a street performer from Hakodate, continues to dance on public streets at the age of 95, presenting his signature performance in Sapporo on August 24.
Amagasaki lives with Parkinson’s disease and has a pacemaker, and he has recently endured fractured ribs, yet he keeps dancing, pushing through illness and pain.
Now in his 57th year as a performer, he continues to refine his craft and is often described as Japan’s top street performer. Audience members said, “It’s wonderful to keep doing one thing,” and “His vitality is simply incredible.”
Amagasaki plans to perform across Japan in the months ahead, saying he is “still immature as a performer” and wants “to keep dancing until at least 100.”
