TOKYO, Sep 15 (News On Japan) - A fire broke out on Sunday night in the Shishibone area of Edogawa Ward, Tokyo, engulfing six homes and injuring one man who lived in the house where the blaze started.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department and the fire department said the incident was reported around 10:30 p.m. with a call to emergency services saying, "The house is on fire."
A total of 40 fire trucks and emergency vehicles were dispatched to the scene. The fire was largely extinguished about two and a half hours later. In total, approximately 140 square meters across six residential buildings were burned.
A woman living nearby said, "The flames shot up nearly 10 meters. It was a terrifying reminder of how dangerous fires can be."
There were no reports of anyone being trapped during the fire. The man who lived in the house where the fire originated was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The fire occurred in a residential neighborhood about 1.6 kilometers from Shinozaki Station on the Toei Shinjuku Line. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the cause of the blaze.
