HOKKAIDO, Sep 18 (News On Japan) - A brown bear has been captured in Sunagawa City, Hokkaido, where warnings had been issued after repeated sightings, with video footage showing the animal extending its long, sharp claws through a fence and attempting to intimidate the camera.
The bear was caught in a mountainous area of the city.
According to the local hunters' association, the bear measured about two meters in length and was estimated to weigh around 180 kilograms. Traps had been set by the group in July, leading to the capture on September 17th.
In Sunagawa, bears had been spotted for nine consecutive days this month, though authorities believe the captured bear is a different individual.
The Hokkaido government has issued a brown bear warning for Sunagawa, in effect until October 7th.
