Woman Seriously Injured After Being Crushed in Mechanical Parking System in Tokyo

TOKYO - A woman in her 40s suffered a serious injury after being trapped in a mechanical parking system in Tokyo’s Shinagawa Ward on October 19th.

According to police, the incident occurred in the morning at a mechanical parking facility in the Nishigotanda district when the woman was trying to retrieve her parked car. As she was doing so, the lower half of her body was caught under a descending platform known as a "pallet," which is used to hold vehicles.

Firefighters rescued the woman, who sustained a fractured spine and was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Police are investigating the cause of the accident.

The parking facility is located in a busy commercial area near JR Gotanda Station.
