HYOGO - A firefighter with the Toyonaka City Fire Department has been arrested on suspicion of confining his live-in partner's 6-year-old daughter at their home and causing her injury.
Police arrested 29-year-old Takumi Yagi on suspicion of confinement resulting in injury.
According to investigators, Yagi allegedly tied both of the girl's wrists with what appeared to be a rope in a bedroom at their home in Kawanishi, Hyogo Prefecture, on July 4, then confined her there for about eight hours. The girl suffered abrasions to her left wrist.
Police said the bedroom's interior doorknob had been removed, leaving the child unable to open the door from inside.
During questioning, Yagi reportedly told investigators that he confined the girl "for discipline because she did not follow the house rules and told lies." While admitting to confining the child, he has denied causing her injuries. Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
