TOKYO - The 2026 Japan Toy Awards have been announced, with an innovative board game that allows players to experience investing while having fun taking the top prize in the Games and Puzzles category.
Selected from about 350 products, the award-winning game is a sugoroku-style board game designed to teach the basics of investing to both children and adults.
Players invest in assets including gold, stocks and cryptocurrencies as they work toward achieving their goals, providing an opportunity to learn basic concepts of asset management through play.
The product reflects growing public interest in investment and was among a number of experiential and educational toys recognized in this year's awards.
Daisuke Fujii, a specialist committee member of the Japan Toy Association's trade fair committee, said investment has attracted increasing attention in an uncertain social environment. "It reflects that kind of social trend," he said.
Japan's toy market has continued to expand for six consecutive years despite the country's declining birthrate.
The 2026 awards reflected broader social trends, with many prizes going to products that combine entertainment with hands-on learning and other forms of interactive experience.
