FUKUOKA - A Nepalese vocational school student found dead in a river in Fukuoka city had multiple injuries on her arms believed to have been sustained while trying to protect herself, leading police to suspect she was attacked repeatedly with a strong intent to kill.
The body of Laxmi Rajbanshi, a Nepalese national attending a vocational school, was discovered on the morning of August 19 in the Naka River, which flows through Fukuoka city.
Police determined that the case was a homicide and established a special investigation headquarters after finding multiple injuries to Rajbanshi's head that appeared to have been caused by blows from a hard object.
Investigators have since found that her arms also bore multiple injuries believed to have been sustained while she was defending herself during the attack.
Police said Rajbanshi had not contacted authorities before the incident to report any disputes or other problems.
Investigators believe the attacker repeatedly assaulted Rajbanshi with a strong intent to kill and are continuing efforts to identify and locate the person responsible.
